Broken Hill sounded an usual name for a town when American banjoist-songwriter
Freddie Morgan heard it for the first time, when appearing on Dick
Cranbourne’s “Hillbilly Time” for 3DB. Freddie who wrote “Hey Mr Banjo” and
“Sayonara” suggested to guitar-vocalist Lawrie Allen of “Hillbilly Time” that
the town’s name would sound good in a song title, Lawrie took his advice and
this week had his song “I Left A Broken Heart In Broken Hill” released on
record and the first to autograph it- cigar smoking songwriter Freddie Morgan.
